At the HSE Staff and Student Conference, which took place at the Russia Expo on March 19, 2024, HSE Rector Nikita Anisimov presented an overview of the university's key achievements from 2019 to 2023.

The HSE Staff and Student Conference took place in Pavilion 75 of VDNH at the Russia Expo. The event brought together representatives of the university to discuss its key achievements and elect the HSE Academic Council.

Today, HSE is a comprehensive university that is successful in both natural and social sciences. With more than 300 bachelor's and master's programmes, including 21 implemented online, HSE has demonstrated impressive growth in student enrolment since 2019 in all education delivery methods. HSE University provides an educational platform across four cities and promotes inter-campus interaction.

The structure of student community confirms HSE University's ability to teach digital competencies and provide knowledge in humanities. The most popular field of study at the university is Computer Science and Engineering (12,682 students in bachelor's, specialist, and master's programmes). Creative Industries is second-popular (9,328), and Economics takes third place (7,902).

Over the past five years, the number of HSE graduates has increased by almost 50%. The university is highly valued by employers for the quality of undergraduate training, especially in artificial intelligence, ranking first according to the AI Alliance Russia.

‘We have a well-established system where every student acquires digital skills. Our university takes great pride in it,’ said Nikita Anisimov.

The desire for the highest standards of education has made HSE the university of first choice among applicants, including winners of the All-Russian Olympiad for School Students.

The university stands out for its large number of foreign students—over 5,000 students from various countries around the world are studying in bachelor's, specialist, and master's programmes.

The transition to large interdisciplinary projects, the preservation of unique competence centres, and an increase in the volume of research and development (R&D) activities have marked a new stage in the development of HSE University. The volume of R&D has increased by more than one and a half times, with over 50% of R&D revenue now earned in the open market.

According to Nikita Anisimov, HSE is currently working on major projects to improve the education system in Russia and participates in 20 strategic governmental initiatives. As an expertise centre, HSE University organises more than a dozen socially significant projects in over 30 Russian regions. Among these projects are the development of university strategies, socio-economic strategies, recommendations for demographic policy, comprehensive spatial development projects, support for the integration of universities in the Lugansk People’s Republic and the Donetsk People’s Republic into the Russian education system, and other important projects.

HSE University operates in several major Russian cities (Moscow, St Petersburg, Perm, and Nizhny Novgorod) and is a leader in education quality in these regions.

For several years now, HSE has been implementing a double-degree programme with dozens of regional universities.

‘Currently, 1500 students in more than 10 Russian cities are studying at double-degree programmes that implement the HSE standards. We have a huge impact on the educational environment and improve the quality of higher education throughout the country,’ said Nikita Anisimov.

He added that the main goal of HSE University is to be a global university for Russia and set the agenda for the country.

The rector also spoke about the HSE Mirror Laboratories project. These are research projects that HSE implements together with local universities and research centres to increase efficiency in research and education, and develop academic cooperation. Over the past few years, HSE has established 30 Mirror Laboratories with 24 universities from 21 Russian regions.
